Department of Environment and Natural Resources

Agatha Maxine Bedi is an ecologist at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under the Geospatial Database Office (GDO), where she applies geospatial technology to support science-based policy and decision-making.

She was the project lead for BakaJuan: One Mangrove for Every Juan, a nationwide citizen science initiative in partnership with the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA). This project mobilized field offices and local communities across the country to actively map mangrove forests and raise awareness, strengthening data-driven conservation efforts. Building on this work, she will also serve as the project lead for mobilizing citizen scientists to map the country’s seagrass and coral habitats, further advancing marine ecosystem accounting and protection through geospatial innovations.

Agatha holds a Master’s in Management of Tropical Ecosystems from the University of Montpellier, France. Her work bridges science and policy, ensuring sustainable management of the Philippines’ marine and coastal resources.
