Dennis Calvan is the former Executive Director of the NGOs for Fisheries Reform (NFR), a national coalition of non-government organizations that implement Community-Based Coastal Resources Management (CB-CRM) in the Philippines. He was a member of the drafting committee of the IRR of R.A. No. 10654, which amended the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998. He is currently a member of the National Technical Working Group that develops the National Plan of Action for Small Scale Fisheries in the Philippines. His extensive work in the development sector facilitated his appointment as the NGO representative and eventual appointment to the National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (NFARMC), the highest policy recommending body to the Department of Agriculture on fisheries and aquaculture concerns. At present, he works as the Director for Policy and Government Engagement of Rare Philippines, an international non-government organization that specializes on behavior change.
